What is Graphic Design?

Graphic Design is to create visual text and imagery concepts, by hand or using computer software, to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate consumers. They develop the overall layout and production design for advertisements, brochures, magazines, corporate reports, etc.

RESEARCH

Creating a concept begins with asking the right questions. What problem does this product solve? Who is this for? What is your goal for this product?

SKETCH

Pencil meets paper, now let any and every idea you have flow out. I was taught to create 50 thumbnail sketches for any design I am working on. This insures that I can later filter the Good and the Bad.

FINALIZE

Now that you have an idea of what you want to make, the only thing left to do is to, well, make it.

Creating a product is no easy feat (unless you are under a deadline). Coming up with the idea, the target demographic, the vibe, and then branding are all the right steps to developing a good product.

The Idea

Simple. No-show socks for women that hooks onto the back of the shoe to prevent slipping off.

The Demographic

Unfortunately, there is a large margin of women aged 8 – 45 that suffer sock slips, but that just means a wider audience for my product.

The Vibe

No-show socks are made to be fashionable (in a sense). I wanted to use a very feminine pallet. each color has its own meaning. Purple represents royal or fancy, Pink to show energy and care, blue for smart and trustworthy.

Poster offer a unique perspective in advertising. Unlike flyers or ads, posters allow for more space to get the information across. Not just through text, but through visual design.

The Assignment

By using a random word generator, create multiple movie posters using the same title. Each poster must have a different movie genre.

The Title

My movie title ended up being Distant Moon, lucky for me this was a blessing of a title. You can fit this title into any genre. For me, I went with Space Epic, Comedy, and Murder Mystery.
